| Abstract | This is a newly designed thematic unit which will explore the medicinal values of local plants. It is designed as a generic unit that will allow for regional differences. The specific areas to be addressed will include:
1. Literature/Cultural research into local plants of medicinal value
2. Identification of candidate plants for testing for biologic activity
3. Design of a scientific protocol for testing for biologic activity
4. Preparation of plant samples for testing
5. Bacteriologic lab activities to assess biologic activity
6. Protozoal lab activities to assess biologic activity
7. Arthropod lab activities to assess biologic activity
8. Chromatographic techniques to isolate active fractions from plant extracts
9. Testing for activity of isolates
10. Characterization of isolates |
