Computer Interfacing
Computers
Both Macintosh and PC computers may be used with the probeware
discussed here. Notebook or Powerbook computers
provide the possibility of portability, which is important for
field investigations, although batteries have a limited life-span.
There are cigarette lighter battery chargers which can extend
the life of the computer's batteries out in the field if you can
get back to your car/van occasionally.
Macintosh
All of the Macintosh programs will run on any Macintosh Mac Plus
or newer computer. The Macintosh needs to be running System 6
or newer and have 1MB RAM free. Although the programs can run
on Power Macintosh computers, they are not written in native PowerPC
code.
PC
Any PC running Windows 3.x or Windows 95 will perform well.
