Vinegar
Vinegar is more than just bad wine. Vinegar is derived from the Middle
English 'vinegre,' from the Middle French 'vinaigre,' a compound of 'vin'
meaning wine, and 'aigre' meaning sour. Ironically, in English we have two
distinct words, wine and vinegar, that we may not even know are related;
while in French the root of 'vin' in 'vinaigre' is apparent.
