Terminators: Wordplays for Ideas & Insights
Thesis and Hypothesis
A thesis to a scientist can be both an idea
and a book. A thesis is an idea put forth and supported by argument.
It is also a dissertation--a long written presentation of the idea and
the evidence assessing the thesis. A baby thesis is a hypothesis--an
idea put forth but not yet with proof, but designed to be tested.
Thesis comes from the Greek 'tithenai' meaning to put (forth), to lay
down.
